Daylight saving time for over 7 months a year... why do we ever go back to "normal" time?

I know that Daylight saving time was only recently extended, but now I wonder, why ever go back to normal time? We only have "normal" time for about 4.5 months a year now. Seems more like "Normal" time should have the "abnormal" tag; like "daylight losing time".
